Guys and Gals,

I'm planning on driving mine on the road a fair amount (ie: I5 to Vegas, and normal street), as well as the track. The tracks near me and what I'll likely be on are not what I would consider high speed tracks requiring a lot of DRS, but maybe I'm wrong. I'm talking Spring Mountain, LVMS, Laguna, and Sonoma.

I'm concerned that if I get an exposed carbon configuration, I'll risk rock chips that will be there forever, even with using a PPF. Of course that package will be gorgeous, but would my use case steer me towards a more painted configuration that could be touched up in the event of a rock chip the PPF couldn't mitigate?

On GTs, additional layers of PPF were applied in anticipation of rock chip areas: underneath doors, etc.

From factory? Or was this requested by owners at their PPF provider?

I forgot to mention that based on my use case, I'm wondering how much value the Performance option will be on the tracks I might go to. Any guesses on seconds / lap ?

I would base those decisions on what you like. I personally do not like ppf as it has its own issues. The cost difference between packages is about a Darkhorse. I enjoy driving them, tracking them.

Should have been more specific. PPF was applied minimum of 30 days after last paint applied. PPF installation was applied by aftermarket installers. Informed Owners requested added layers of PPF in specific areas. Paint correction Pre-PPF. Hard coating Post-PPF. Both PPF materials and coatings have improved over the course of six years since my GT was covered.

I’ll follow same course with GTD.

Research installers! Price- either low or high- doesn’t always equate to best quality…….
Expel definitely stands behind their film.

Do you have a particular brand you would recommend?

Carbon fiber repair is not a big deal. I repair CF wheels and all that is involved is a quality resin, ability to polish, and possible clear coat.

I wouldn't let paint vs PPF be a factor in my decision in that regard.

And for what it's worth, I haven't heard if they are using dry or wet carbon.

GT has SUNTEC. Was slightly thicker and offered a little more clarity at the time. Will use EXPEL on GTD as have been pleased with its innovation and quality. EXPEL is on several of our other vehicles since GT was wrapped. Plus, a high quality distributor/installer/Detailer set up shop with clean room about 2 minutes from our home a couple years ago! Aaaaaand he says what he does and does what he says!

My 2c (with many cars w some PPF and 3 with 100%), the installer is more important than which product.

ALso consider windscreen protection film.
An absolute must for anyone who tracks their vehicle. I learned that lesson a long time ago. One weekend at the track left me with a pitted windscreen.

I install my own. Not easy to install because it doesn't give or stretch like PPF does, but if you get the tear away sheets several thick, you don't have to replace that often.
